Labin

If you thought you have seen it all wait until you explore the eastern coast of Istria...

Situated on the hilltop above Rabac, Labin is the birthplace of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, the reformer and collaborator of Martin Luther. This cultural and administrative center today is rich in art ateliers, creative town museum with a miniature coal mine and abandoned but preserved buildings of a once booming coal mine industry. Although entire Istria is an exceptionally open minded and multicultural environment, nowhere will you feel it better than here. In the mining days it didn’t matter if you were Croatian, Bosnian, Italian or Istrian. They would all go to the pits together, and they would all come back out black, covered in coal.

Nowadays, coal mining is part of rich history and our guests enjoy beautiful crystal clear sea in Rabac during the day, and divine delicacies in nearby restaurants in the evenings. This region pays special attention to seasonal fish, fruit, vegetable and other products, so you will always enjoy your time here!
